There is also a Pond Hockey tournament the same day of the polar bear swim as well.

I was at the Big River Shiver and seem to remember having a variety of shooters to help keep warm. What a great time watching those crazy people jump in the lake, although I wouldn’t jump in Cowen lake in the winter for any compensation.

I’ve been to the Big River Shiver. These people are crazy, they dress up in costumes and dive into the lake. There’s a pond hockey tournament on the ice as well. When was the last time you got to play hockey on a frozen lake and swim in that lake the same day. A truly unique event. Loads of fun.

Big River Shiver Polar Bear Swim is not for the weak of heart. This is an event for true Canadians!! You must take a dive in the lake on a day that with the wind chill it’s -40!!! There is hot chocolate by the bon fires afterwards. Sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice fishing. Lots of fun for young and old!!!
